The key to maintaining a competitive advantage in the marketplace is your ability to continue to deliver innovative and differentiated solutions to your customers at a pace that is ahead of your competition. Often, there are three alternatives that product managers and development executives must consider when optimizing their product portfolios: build the new capabilities or products in-house, buy the intellectual property, or partner with another company. Each of these approaches has its advantages, but each strategy has also has different levels of technical, legal, and financial risks.
In this Web Forum, Desiree Wolfe, Manager of Product Management at Fiserv, will share her experiences, tips and lessons learned with evaluating build, buy, and partner strategies for product portfolio management.
Key Takeaways
- A list of important questions that need to be answered before you begin the process of making build, buy, partner decisions.
- A structured, quantitative approach to organizing and weighting key factors affecting build, buy, partner analyses.
- A summary of the advantages and key risks involved in each of the three approaches and suggestions for managing those risks.
