Creating and sustaining high revenue growth rates is the pursuit of most businesses. Generating a stream of new innovative, product and business ideas is fundamental to achieving this goal. Yet, this can be a huge challenge for organizations and their managers.  Building a high quality idea pipeline implies the need for a deliberate, repeatable and visible approach. But too much “process” can stifle the out-of-the-box thinking that is needed. Further, each opportunity is different, requiring the use of different tools, approaches, expectations and skills depending on the situation.

For this moderated PSN Roundtable discussion, we’ve invited highly experienced leaders of new product innovation activity with Bayer and PPG Industries to share how they have addressed this challenge. Dr. Peter Foller, R&D Director for Optical and Chemical with PPG Industries and Brian Long, Innovation Manager with Bayer MaterialScience will share their practices, experiences and lessons learned with conceiving opportunities to build the pipeline of high potential ideas. They’ll cut through the hype and myths of terms such as open innovation and ideation to let you know what has really worked and what has not worked. They will discuss how they approached conceiving new product ideas, solutions, business models and customer futures for innovative technologies.

We’ll begin by asking the following questions, and you’ll have ample time to ask your specific questions and/or share your experiences:

  • What are the goals, measures and context for your product innovation activity? What goals/measures have proven to be effective and ineffective?
  • What strategy is used for generating a credible pipeline of new, innovative product ideas to achieve these goals? What approaches haven’t worked effectively?
  • What organization and work structures have proven to be effective and ineffective?
  • Which conceptualization tools and techniques are in your toolbox? Which ones are no longer used?
  • In your experience, what have been the key attitudes, beliefs and behaviors of a culture that effectively conceives new, innovative products?
 Agenda:
  • 5:30 – 6:00     Networking over food/beverages
  • 6:00 – 6:15     Introductions
  • 6:15 – 8:00     Moderated Discussion & Q&A
Peter Foller, R&D Director, PPG Industries
Brian Long, Innovation Manager, Bayer MaterialScience

  • 8:00 – 8:30     Additional networking
